Boldin blasts Cards

A major storm hit Arizona's training camp yesterday one day before practice begins after standout wide receiver Anquan Boldin lashed out at the Cardinals organization for failing to follow through on what he said was a promise for a new contract.

He said he had told his agent Drew Rosenhaus to end negotiations and that he would not re-sign with the team.

"Right now I don't want a deal," he said after the players went through a running drill. "You may think I'm funny or saying that just to say it, but for me, I'm tired of it. I washed my hands of the whole situation."

Boldin said he was promised a new contract before this season. He has three years left on the four-year, $22.75 million extension he signed after the 2005 season.

Colts sign 2 QBs

With quarterback Peyton Manning opening training camp on the physically unable to perform list, the Colts fortified the position, signing veteran quarterbacks Quinn Gray, who played for AFC South Division rival Jacksonville last season, and Jared Lorenzen, a backup with the Super Bowl champion Giants. Manning's longtime backup, Jim Sorgi, becomes the temporary starter . . . Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy acknowledged that a ceremony to retire Brett Favre's number before the season opener Sept. 8 might have to be postponed now that the veteran quarterback wants to play again. "We have not made a decision yet on whether to cancel it," Murphy said after the Packers' annual shareholders meeting at Lambeau. "But we're coming up to a point where we're going to have to make a decision pretty quickly." . . . Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith made it official, announcing his retirement. Smith, 38, is the franchise's career leader in every major receiving category. The Broncos also said receiver Brandon Marshall met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell this week concerning his string of off-the-field legal troubles.

Asomugha in fold

Star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha officially signed his $9.765 million franchise player tender offer and joined the Raiders in time for their first training camp practice, while running back LaMont Jordan has been told to stay away from the team. Jordan is scheduled to make $4.7 million this year and $5 million next season, but has no role after the team drafted Darren McFadden. The Raiders might be forced to release Jordan if they can't make a deal . . . Giants receiver and special teams standout David Tyree was placed on the physically unable to perform list because of lingering problems recovering from surgery on his right knee . . . The Lions and cornerback Leigh Bodden have agreed on a $27 million, four-year contract extension, according to a person with knowledge of the deal . . . Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards has aggravated a back injury and will start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
