Former Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski, who was fired for interviewing with the New York Jets earlier this month, was named offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday.

Jagodzinski did not return a call from the Globe last night.

Earlier this week, new Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said he planned to take a hands-off approach with whomever he hired as offensive coordinator.

"I'm going to let the guy come in and run his system," Morris said. "People get tied up in schemes but I believe in hiring people and letting them do what they do."

As offensive coordinator of the Packers in 2006, Jagodzinski oversaw the NFL's ninth-ranked passing offense, helping Green Bay improve from 18th the prior season.

He ran a quick-rhythm West Coast passing game that season, with Brett Favre as quarterback, and also favored a zone-blocking scheme in the running game.
