Observations from practice

The Globe's Mike Reiss has news and notes from Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots headed outside for this afternoon's practice on Day 2 of training camp.

Brady enjoyed his space in offseason

Tom Brady is parking his car elsewhere this season. The quarterback wasn't around Gillette Stadium as much during his downtime, so his preferred parking place, the one he's earned since his first offseason, now contains somebody else's car.

Focus already shifted

If you're the New England Patriots, you ignore all you're going to hear about a so-called "Super Bowl Hangover." You pay no attention to the people who point out, some gleefully, that of the last 10 Super Bowl runners-up, seven have not made the playoffs the following year and seven did not break .500. A major storm hit Arizona's training camp yesterday one day before practice begins after standout wide receiver Anquan Boldin lashed out at the Cardinals organization for failing to follow through on what he said was a promise for a new contract. (Boston Globe, 7/25/08)

Belichick practices what he teaches

Perhaps no head coach gets more out of training camp and prepares his team for the rigors of an NFL season better than Bill Belichick, according to former Patriots players. Belichick will open his ninth training camp as Patriots coach this morning at 8:45 at Gillette Stadium. (Boston Globe, 7/24/08)

Patriots sign No. 2 pick Wheatley

Then there was one. The Patriots reached an agreement with second-round draft pick Terrence Wheatley yesterday, leaving first-round selection Jerod Mayo as the team's lone unsigned pick heading into training camp tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. in Foxborough. (Boston Globe, 7/23/08)
