Wes Welker didn't start the game at wide receiver for the Patriots in their 20-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, giving way to fellow wideout Julian Edelman. Edelman played more snaps (75) overall than Welker (64) in the game, a surprising development given Welker's importance to the team over the past few seasons. Welker still performed well (5 receptions, 95 yards), but it's clear the Patriots are using their franchise player less. Theories abound as to why the Patriots are going away from Welker. We've compiled the best of them, from the realistic to the possibly absurd.
