New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan program Monday morning, and with no game to talk about after the Patriot’s bye week, Brady discussed what he’s seeing around the NFL

Brady said he was not surprised by the comeback this season of longtime rival Peyton Manning, who led the Broncos to another win Sunday. Manning missed last season with a neck injury.

“That’s what great players do. There’s a consistent level of high performance and it’s no mystery. He works his butt off and I’ve seen it first hand ... He loves the game and he loves to prepare, he pushes his teammates and he gets the best out of them.”

Brady was able to catch other games over the weekend including the Colts-Dolphins game where rookie quarterback Andrew Luck had a breakout showing.

“He played really well,” said Brady. “He’s a very good player. That was one of the best games to watch ... I’m impressed by those guys [rookies] who can come in and play right away and improve as the season goes along because its very different than the football you play in college.”

Brady also touched briefly on the status of his pregnant wife, Gisele Bundchen.

“She’s prepared,” said Brady. “She’s got to do all the work, not me.”

As for the gender of the baby, Brady said they are looking forward to the big surprise, which is due at the end of the month. Brady is hoping his wife does not go into labor on a Sunday.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” he said. “There’s nothing more important than that, but there’s also nothing more important than my job, and I’ve got a lot of people that are counting on me.”

As for his team, the Patriots will go into the second half of the season with a 5-3 record.

“It’s a progression of challenges and a lot of it’s failures and you make mistakes and you try not to make them again,” he said. “I still think I have a lot of room for improvement ... because once you feel like you stop improving then it’s time for you to move on because you can never be good enough or be too good in this game.”

The Patriots face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and Brady is ready to get back on the field.

“It’ll be fun to get back to football,” he said.
