Secondary needs varying coverages: So far, we’ve seen a steady stream of zone, but a limited number of snaps dedicated to man coverage and even fewer dedicated to bump-and-run. After last season’s atrocious start for Devin McCourty and Kyle Arrington in the bump-and-run, doing anything else seemed like the prudent way to go. But now the Patriots have the most conservative pass defense in the league and they’re still getting torched to a tune of 281.1 yards per game. Not only do the Patriots need to vary their looks, they need to show the opposition that they can play aggressively while doing so. It’s the only way to keep offenses guessing.
