Safety play needs an overhaul: A glaring issue with the team’s overall pass defense has been the safety play. Whether it’s been Steve Gregory (missed four games), Patrick Chung (missed two games) or Tavon Wilson, the Patriots have been hurting because of poor angles taken and poor help on deep patterns. The team has given up 41 pass plays of 20 yards or more – a league worst. A large part of that falls on the safeties who are often tasked with deep coverage in zone play. Safeties coach Brian Flores needs to take special care in demonstrating the changes necessary to help prevent those kind of large plays from happening.
