FOXBOROUGH – On Wednesday, Matthew Slater was named to his second Pro Bowl. The special teamer wouldn’t mind, however, if he has to claim a rain check.
“I’d rather be eating gumbo in New Orleans than pineapple in Hawaii,” Slater said at Gillette Stadium after Thursday’s practice. “I think the team has had a good year. That shows by us getting individual awards. But they’re really not individual awards. They’re team awards. They’re team honors.”
Slater has recorded a team-high 20 tackles on special teams. Slater made the Pro Bowl for the first time last year. Slater didn’t play in the Pro Bowl because of the Patriots’ Super Bowl appearance in Indianapolis.
“I didn’t get to go last year,” Slater said. “Hopefully I don’t get to go this year.”
Six other Patriots were named to the Pro Bowl roster: Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, and Jerod Mayo.
“It shows a lot of guys respect what we do,” Wilfork said. “I’m very, very happy with it.”
