The Patriots released fourth-year defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick and receiver Andre Holmes Monday, and added two offensive linemen: veteran Tyronne Green and rookie free agent R.J. Mattes.

The 27-year-old Green, 6 feet 2 inches, 316 pounds, was a fourth-round pick of the Chargers out of Auburn in 2009. Last season was the first time he was a full-time starter, appearing in 13 games and starting all of them at left guard.

The release of Deaderick is a bit of a surprise. A 2010 seventh-round pick out of Alabama, Deaderick played in 14 games last season with five starts; he was on the field for 374 defensive snaps.

He was credited with 14 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup.
