On Tuesday, Matthew Slater was brought back to the night of Nov. 30, 2008, the night the then-rookie fumbled away a kickoff at a key moment, a mistake that led to a Steelers’ touchdown at a critical moment in what became a Patriots loss.

Six years later, Slater is a team captain and two-time Pro Bowler as a special teams ace, crediting the arrival of coach Scotty O’Brien in 2009 as a key reason he has become so successful playing a role not every team values as highly as the Patriots.
