Rolling Stone magazine delves into the troubling saga of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in its upcoming issue.

Among what it terms “revelations” in an article by contributing editor Paul Solotaroff is that Hernandez “was a heavy user of angel dust, and had become so paranoid over the last year that he carried a gun wherever he went.”

The magazine also asserts that Patriots coach Bill Belichick had become so infuriated with Hernandez missing practices and demonstrating other thuggish behavior that he “was one misstep from being cut.”

The article, which is titled “The Gangster in the Huddle,” delves into Hernandez’s troubled family background, which also was detailed in a recent Globe feature story.

Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of an acquaintance, Odin Lloyd.
