FOXBOROUGH — Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski took a big step toward his much-anticipated return to game action on Friday when his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told several media outlets his client has been cleared by all doctors to play this week against the Jets.
But on their official injury report, released Friday afternoon, the Patriots listed Gronkowski as questionable for Sunday, as they have since Week 3.
At his morning press conference, held just after Rosenhaus’s declaration, Bill Belichick said only that the team would list its injuries “at the end of the day, like we always do on Friday.”
Still, this is the most definitive statement yet about Gronkowski’s readiness, and the belief is that doctors’ clearance, most notably from Dr. James Andrews, was the last hurdle for the 24-year-old star tight end on his long road back from multiple arm surgeries, as well as back surgery.
