Tailgating Patriots fans enjoyed the festivities

DENVER — The specter of a Patriots fan riding four hours from southwest Colorado to Denver, between a pair of Broncos fans, made for a bawdy comparison, yet this was no Canterbury Tales. It was a trip to the AFC Championship game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, the Patriots’ first playoff road game since the 2006 season.

Mesmerized by the new Patriots logo unveiled in 1993, Kip McCormick, 32, of Del Notre, Colo., became a Patriots fan as a seventh-grader. His wise-cracking friends, Rusty Strohmayer and Eric Hood, rip his devotion while they renew Broncos season tickets that have been in the Strohmayer family since 1963, when Rusty’s parents made the commute from their home in Montana.
