Tom Brady is taking a pass on the Pro Bowl again this year.
The Kansas City Chiefs announced that quarterback Alex Smith would replace Brady on the Pro Bowl roster.
Brady was named to the Pro Bowl for the ninth time (and fifth consecutive year) this season. But, as in years past, Brady won’t attend.
The Patriots have not announced an official reason for Brady’s absence. He finished Sunday’s loss in the AFC title game at Denver and was not on Friday’s final injury report before the game.
Brady has not played in the last five Pro Bowls he’s been selected to.
Brady joined three other Patriots teammates on the original Pro Bowl roster. Offensive lineman Logan Mankins, cornerback Aqib Talib, and special teamer Matthew Slater also were selected.
Talib pulled out of the game after being injured in Sunday’s loss.
Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski was added to the roster to replace Denver kicker Matt Prater, who will participate in the Super Bowl.
