A lighter hit on Klecko

FOXBOROUGH -- Hits on quarterbacks Kerry Collins and Jay Fiedler in games Oct. 12 and 19 earned rookie Dan Klecko fines totaling $17,500.

The NFL recently heard his appeal on the hit on Collins, which resulted in a $10,000 fine, and returned $2,500 to Klecko.

Klecko confirmed the refund yesterday and seemed pleased. Now he awaits the appeal on the hit on Fiedler, which he also believes was not excessive.

Money collected from fines goes to NFL charities.

No decision

Will Troy Brown, who has missed the last three games with an injured hamstring, play tomorrow against the Dolphins?

"I don't know," answered coach Bill Belichick. "With Troy, we haven't done much so far. Maybe it will be a game-day decision. We don't want to set him back, so we will give him as much time as possible and take a look at it before the game. I have no idea."

Belichick did say that Brown has pushed to play.

"Of course," said Belichick. "Nobody is more competitive than Troy. He is working hard to be out there. Nobody is working harder than he is."

Taylor targeted

According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor has received one of approximately 30 letters the FBI is examining as part of a threat to prominent black athletes, entertainers, politicians, and civic leaders. The letters have included threats of castration, shooting, and being set on fire if the men do not "stop establishing relations with white females," FBI special agent Robert Hawk of the Cleveland office said Thursday about the investigation. "I have no comment on it," said Taylor, whose wife, Katina, is white. "I have nothing to say about it whatsoever. It has nothing to do with being a player. It's society." . . . Belichick said he hasn't had to speak to the team about what's ahead. "Not any implication, just what the situation is," he said. "We could be 11-2 if we win. If we lose, we are 10-3. That is what the game is about right now. The only thing we can do anything about is this week and this game, and that is it. And we always talk about what one game means. There are four games left in the season. You win one and lose three, then I don't know what that one means." . . . Belichick would not reveal who the holder will be on field goals tomorrow. New punter Brooks Barnard has been holding in practice, while all the quarterbacks have also taken their turns. It appears if it's not Barnard, it will be Damon Huard . . . Backup quarterback Rohan Davey looks more like a linebacker than a quarterback these days. He's gained quite a bit of mass in his upper body from weightlifting. He said of his rise to No. 2 on the depth chart, "I've been fortunate to be able to learn from Tom [Brady] and Damon [Huard]. I'm just trying to get better each day, learn as much as I can from the coaches and the veterans." . . . Team vice chairman Jonathan Kraft unveiled the commemorative ticket being sent to season ticket-holders for tomorrow's 100th consecutive sellout at Gillette Stadium. The run includes regular-season, exhibition, and the four postseason games played at the stadium, in which the Patriots are 66-33. The ticket is personalized with the holder's name, and a message, "From the Kraft Family and the entire Patriots Organization. Thank You." "Just a way to say thank you to our fans," said Kraft. "It's not overly dramatic, but something you can frame and just our way to express our appreciation."
