FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots would give no official comment yesterday on whether defensive end Richard Seymour checked in with the veterans who were scheduled to report for training camp, but the team Wednesday had placed him on the league's reserve/did not report list.
There was no media availability yesterday as players were scheduled to undergo physicals and participate in a conditioning test.
Seymour, looking to renegotiate his contract -- which has two years remaining -- sat out the team's minicamp in June and has not commented on his contract situation since.
Early designations
The Patriots placed five players on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list entering camp.Wide receivers Bethel Johnson and Tim Dwight both have foot injuries. Johnson injured himself working out during the offseason, while Dwight is still recovering from surgery at the end of last season. Neither worked out at the team's June minicamp.
Free agent pickup Chad Morton, expected to be the team's lead return man, has an undisclosed injury, and free agent guard Bryan Anderson also makes the list.
Linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who had a stroke in February and announced last week that he would sit out this season, has been given that designation as well and is eligible to receive his $850,000 salary for this season.
Players on the PUP list in camp are eligible to return to practice whenever they are deemed healthy, but by placing injured players on the list, a team can have more players on its camp roster. Players on the list at the end of camp are not eligible to return to the team until after the sixth week of the season.![]()
