1978 -- As a high school sophomore, Flutie kicks his first field goal, a 38-yarder with three seconds left to lead Natick to a 27-25 win over Braintree. His older brother, Bill, is the holder.

December 1979 -- Named a Globe All-Scholastic as a junior at defensive back.

December 1980 -- Named a Globe All-Scholastic at quarterback after passing for 1,488 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading Natick to an 8-2 record.

June 20, 1981 -- After seeing Flutie play quarterback in the Shriners Classic (at Boston College), BC coach Jack Bicknell decides to give him a shot at QB in college.

Oct. 10, 1981 -- As a freshman, he comes off the bench to pass for 135 yards in the fourth quarter vs. Penn State and becomes the starting QB.

Oct. 30, 1982 -- Passes for 520 yards in a loss to Penn State.

Dec. 18, 1982 -- Passes for 299 yards in a loss to Auburn in the Tangerine Bowl, BC's first bowl appearance since 1943.

Dec. 29, 1983 -- Named MVP of Liberty Bowl as BC loses, 19-18, to Notre Dame.

Sept. 8, 1984 -- Passes for 254 yards to spark an upset of No. 9 Alabama in Birmingham.

Nov. 3, 1984 -- Breaks NCAA record for career passing yardage by throwing for 447 in a loss to Penn State.

Nov. 23, 1984 -- Throws the famous ''Hail Mary" pass on the game's final play to upset Miami.

Dec. 1, 1984 -- Wins Heisman Trophy.

Jan. 1, 1985 -- Leads BC over Houston, 45-28, in the Cotton Bowl.

Feb. 4, 1985 -- Signs with New Jersey of the United States Football League.

May 1, 1985 -- Selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round of the NFL draft.

Oct. 14, 1986 -- His rights are traded to the Chicago Bears; he signs with them one month later.

Oct. 13, 1988 -- Traded to Patriots.

Feb. 1, 1990 -- Released by Patriots.

June 25, 1990 -- Signs with British Columbia Lions of Canadian Football League.

March 23, 1993 -- Signs with Calgary of CFL.

November 1994 -- Sets CFL record with 48 TD passes for a season.

March 15, 1996 -- Signs with Toronto of CFL.

November 1997 -- Leads Toronto to second straight Grey Cup, named league MVP for the sixth time.

Jan. 20, 1998 -- Signs with Buffalo Bills.

Dec. 16, 1998 -- Named to Pro Bowl, later named NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

March 1, 2001 -- Released by Bills.

March 9, 2001 -- Signs with San Diego Chargers.

Nov. 9, 2003 -- First NFL player over 40 to score two touchdowns in a game.

March 11, 2005 -- Released by Chargers.

April 29, 2005 -- Signs with Patriots.

Jan. 1, 2006 -- Executes a dropkick for a point after touchdown, the first one in the NFL since 1941.

May 15, 2006 -- Retires from pro football.
