Questions could involve Brady

Bonds's trainer spoke with QB

The Associated Press reported last night that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is among the athletes that a federal grand jury in San Francisco informed Greg Anderson he should be prepared to answer questions about should he take the stand in the ongoing investigation of Barry Bonds for perjury and tax evasion.

According to Paula Canny, one of Anderson's attorneys, investigators may have come across Brady's name through Anderson's phone records. Anderson, Bonds's personal trainer, served 15 days in jail in July after refusing to testify to a grand jury about possible steroid use by Bonds.

Before being jailed, Anderson issued a statement to the court that he ``will not ever make statements about other people." That statement included mention of Brady, who is a Bay Area native and attended the same high school as Bonds, though he graduated 13 years after the slugger.

``I had only one brief conversation with Tom Brady regarding a potential future workout," Anderson said in the statement dated June 23. ``I never had another phone conversation with him and never discussed it with anyone."

Brady was the only other athlete mentioned in the statement, but Canny said 10 to 20 other names are on the subpoena. Anderson's statement did not indicate when he had the alleged conversation with Brady.

Brady could not be reached for comment last night, and Patriots spokesman Stacey James said the team had no comment on the matter. Brady is scheduled to conduct his weekly press conference this morning.

According to the AP, prosecutors plan to ask US District Judge William Alsup today to send Anderson to prison if he refuses to testify again.
