Even one of the Patriots' basic plays the draw, diagrammed here by Bill Belichick requires a certain coordination among the offensive linemen and a knowledge of who's responsible for which defender. In the play, a run disguised as a pass, all five linemen Matt Light (72), Logan Mankins (70), Dan Koppen (67), Stephen Neal (61), and Nick Kaczur (77) drop back initially to make the defense think it's a pass. At first, Light says, "you basically want to let the defensive linemen go where they want." Then, as the offensive linemen create running lanes, Koppen must not only help block the defensive tackle but also look to take on the linebacker behind him. Like the linemen, Laurence Maroney (39) "sells" the pass by pretending to pass block, then takes the handoff from Tom Brady (12).
