From high school playing fields to Super Bowls, Patriots tight end Ben Watson has more than a few stories about his life in football. On Sunday, Watson will share some of those tales with some of the top student-athletes in the state at the Globe's annual All-Scholastic Awards ceremony.
Watson played high school football in South Carolina, where he was named all-area and all-region his senior year. The honors may have different names, but the All-Scholastics share the same sense of accomplishment. And his success wasn't limited to the field. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and enrolled at Duke. He transferred to Georgia and was drafted by the Patriots in 2004.
Watson will be joined at the ceremony by former All-Scholastics Meredith Frank of Westwood and Northwestern and Brian Morrissey of Governor's Academy and Williams College.
Frank was a part of the Northwestern women's lacrosse team that won its fourth straight NCAA title this spring. She had a goal and an assist in the 10-6 title win over Penn. Morrissey is the captain of the Williams football team and was the leading rusher in NESCAC last fall. Both are heading into their senior years.
The Globe's All-Scholastic program dates to the first football team in 1896.
