Former Patriot Joe Andruzzi was surrounded by his Pats pals in Foxborough last night for the second annual New England Celebrities Tackle Cancer Gala, which benefited the Joe Andruzzi Foundation. The guest list for the event included Tom Brady, who was back in town after a weekend in South Beach with his wife, Gisele Bundchen, and teammates Stephen Neal, Dan Koppen, Matt Light, and Jarvis Green. The party was held at Christina’s on Route 1. Speaking of Brady, he talked about more than just football when he was on WEEI yesterday morning. The Pats QB called his recent Florida vacation a honeymoon, of sorts, saying that they watched the Jets-Dolphins game and relaxed with friends. The famous duo was also mobbed by the paparazzi, but that’s nothing new. Brady told ’EEI that former Patriot Drew Bledsoe prepared him for at least some of the media attention he’s received since becoming a mega-star quarterback. “I remember, like, in 2000 I was here with Drew and he was telling me that he went to a restaurant in Walpole at one point and the next day in the newspaper they printed everything he ordered.’’ (Sorry, Tom. We newspapers tend to do that sometimes.) Brady said that Bundchen is more likely to get angry with the ever-present media than he is. “She’s got that Brazilian passion, she’s all bark and no bite. She’s pretty feisty when she really wants to be - yeah definitely her.’’ Of Gisele’s recent interest in flying helicopters (she’s been taking classes in Marshfield), Brady said, “You know, she’s done everything, she’s gone scuba diving with sharks, she’s gone rappelling down a mountain, she does kung fu, she does boxing - it’s just how she is.’’
Event moves $1 million
More than $1 million was raised at Sunday night’s An Evening to Move Mountains, a benefit for Partners in Health. The private event, which was hosted by chef
Jody Adams at Rialto, was attended by Partners cofounders Dr.
Paul Farmer,
Ophelia Dahl, and
Todd McCormack,
Jack and
Eileen Connors, developer
John Fish, high-profile lawyer
Bob Popeo, and Partners president-to-be
Gary Gottlieb, who was honored that evening. Highland Capital exec
Bob Davis chaired the event. We’re guessing that most of that million was raised by the night’s auction, which included a dinner with
Matt Damon.
Direct from 50 Cent
If you saw a guy who looks like
50 Cent roaming around Boston yesterday, it was probably 50 Cent. The rapper was in town to screen his directorial debut, “Before I Self Destruct,’’ at the AMC Loews Boston Common. He called us from the Liberty Hotel last night, just before the screenings. He said that seeing the hotel, which he knew used to be a jail, is the closest he’s come to sightseeing in Boston. “I don’t really get the chance to explore Boston,’’ he said, explaining that whenever he’s in town, he’s too busy performing to go anywhere. Anyone who buys 50’s new album, which comes out Nov. 16, will also get a copy of the DVD of the movie “Before I Self Destruct.’’ The rapper not only directed the picture, he also wrote it and stars in it. He explained that the album and movie are packaged together because the music inspired the film - like a reverse soundtrack. He added that he loved writing the screenplay because he could get deep. Apparently, you can only get so far with lyrics to a three-minute song. “With records, there’s only enough time to create descriptions. You don’t have time to create a cause and effect.’’
Teletubbies go bowling
Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po . . . and Manny. Yes, that’s
Manny Delcarmen with three Teletubbies at Kings in the Back Bay. The trio dressed in Tubby gear were actually just some Halloween revelers who happened to be at the bowling alley on Saturday when Delcarmen hosted his annual “Bowl Strikes for Schools’’ benefit. Delcarmen was joined for the afternoon of bowling by his wife and son,
Anna and
Manny III, and good sport
Terry Francona. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Boston Public Schools.
Tested by the pros
Reebok had a few celebrity guests at its Canton facilities yesterday to test out its new baseball gear.
Clay Buchholz and
David Ortiz were on site playing around with some Reebok employees. Ortiz even took part in a home run derby.
They’re still friends
Winona Ryder says nice things about hometowner Matt Damon in December’s issue of Black Book magazine. “Matt couldn’t be a greater, nicer guy. I’m really lucky that I’m on good terms with him.’’ In case you forgot, the two dated about a decade ago.
One busy family
Katie Holmes, who’s been shopping and eating all over town (she made a stop with husband
Tom Cruise at the Newbury Street B. Good on Sunday), may not be in town much longer. She’s been cast in “The Romantics,’’ a wedding movie costarring
Adam Brody and
Anna Paquin that starts shooting in New York next week. Cruise should be sticking around to film more of “Knight & Day’’ with
Cameron Diaz.
Her moment to shine
Berklee freshman
Molly Manarchy is preparing tonight for the most important performance of her career - so far. The 19-year-old guitarist will travel to the White House tomorrow to help acclaimed guitarist
Sharon Isbin lead a workshop for middle and high school students. Manarchy’s audience will include first lady
Michelle Obama, who’s scheduled to introduce the event. Manarchy told us that she’s excited about the visit. In fact, she said the word “excited’’ at least 10 times on the phone yesterday. “I’m really excited to be able to go. It’s exciting and crazy at the same time.’’ Manarchy told us she wasn’t sure why Isbin asked her to help with the workshop - but we know that Manarchy won last year’s Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition
and was the valedictorian at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. Isbin, by the way, played guitar on the soundtrack to “The Departed.’’
