With Chris Baker cut and off to Seattle and Benjamin Watson signed in Cleveland, the Patriots were left without a tight end with NFL experience on their roster.
That time is about to come to an end.
Alge Crumpler, 32, informed the Tennessee Titans he’s agreed to terms with the Patriots, a league source told the Globe Thursday night. Crumpler is expected to sign a contract next week, pending approval from Patriots executives.
Agent James Williams told the Globe Thursday that negotiations were ongoing, but every indication is that parameters for the deal are in place, simply awaiting Crumpler’s signature.
Crumpler spent the first seven years of his career in Atlanta, going to four Pro Bowls and making two All-Pro teams as a receiving threat.
But the last two years in Tennessee, Crumpler was more of a blocker, helping spring Chris Johnson for 2,000 yards in 2009.
