The Patriots traded the 26th pick in the 2009 draft to the Packers, who picked LB Clay Matthews. After several draft-day deals, the Patriots ended up with Darius Butler, Brandon Tate, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski. Here's how:

2009 DRAFT
Patriots trade their No. 23 pick to Ravens for Baltimore's first-rounder (No. 26) and fifth-rounder (162).
Patriots trade two picks obtained from Ravens to Packers for second-rounder and two third-rounders. Packers select Matthews and T James Meredith; Patriots get DB Darius Butler, DB Derek Cox, and WR Brandon Tate.
Patriots trade Cox to Jaguars for seventh-rounder and a 2010 second-rounder. Patriots take WR Julian Edelman with seventh-rounder.

2010 DRAFT
Patriots ship second-round pick (from Jaguars) and their sixth-rounder to Raiders to move up in second round to take TE Rob Gronkowski.
