The Patriots rookie cornerback is spending his first trip to Hawaii with family, and getting a bit daring. But he said it’s with the blessing of his coach.

Asked if Bill Belichick issued an off-limits list of activities for his Pro Bowlers, McCourty smiled and said, “Nah, it’s just be safe. We’re all adults.’’

Recreational jet skis top out at about 65 miles per hour, but McCourty said he was not the least bit hesitant to get on one.

Hawaii has a number of potentially risky activities for tourists, jet skiing, parasailing, and surfing among them. McCourty said he might get a surfing lesson if he can find a teacher.

Pop star Justin Bieber raised eyebrows when he tried cliff jumping into the surf at Waimea Bay last fall. “Nah, that’s not me,’’ said McCourty, drawing a line on how far he’ll go for offseason fun.

McCourty made seven interceptions in a dream season soured only by the stunning playoff loss to the Jets.

The rookie’s missed tackle of Jerricho Cotchery on his 58-yard reception on the first play of the fourth quarter is something McCourty won’t forget.

Will he use the biggest mistake of his big season to motivate himself? “Nah, it was just a play, man,’’ said McCourty, shaking his head. “I’m motivated by the loss, period.’’

But would a Pro Bowl interception help make up for the missed tackle? “No,’’ he said. “This isn’t the regular season or the playoffs. It’s just an honor to be out here. But you know, any time you step on the floor you want to be good.’’

McCourty said he’s been getting an education in the friendly setting.

“It’s good to come out here and learn a lot from these guys,’’ he said.

Everyone, except for two other rookie Pro Bowl selections, is more experienced than him.

In practice Thursday at Kapolei High School and yesterday down the road at the Ihilani Resort’s 50-yard field, McCourty defended passes by Peyton Manning, a man he bedeviled in a game Nov. 21, intercepting one pass and batting down another.

“Peyton Manning came up and said congratulations on the season, but we didn’t talk about that particular game,’’ said McCourty.

McCourty said he is reveling in the atmosphere, and the pain of an abrupt end to a great rookie season is fading.

“It’s beautiful out here,’’ he said. “The weather is so great. Everybody’s been real nice.’’

McCourty said he’s been mesmerized since he arrived.

“When I first got here,’’ he said, “I went out on my hotel balcony and just stared out at the ocean view for about 10 to 15 minutes.’’
