New England Patriots fan Anthony Marinez, a 27-year-old from Chestnut Hill, had an NFL Kickoff Party at Tavern in the Square in Allston last night with 75 of his friends - and Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker. Marinez won the party with Welker from Liberty Bay Credit Union, which ran a contest for new customers. Welker couldn’t stay all night, of course. He had to leave the festivities early to travel with the team to Detroit. Perfectly understandable.
