The players will report July 25 and begin practice the next day. Workouts beginning that Thursday through Sunday, July 29 will be from 1:30-4 p.m.

The practices will be open to the public, with the remaining schedule to be determined.

Perry faces charges

Police in Harrisburg, Pa., say Lions cornerback Aaron Berry faces DUI and other charges stemming from a weekend accident in his hometown.

Authorities say the 24-year-old, who played at the University of Pittsburgh, was arrested around 4 a.m. Saturday after driving his vehicle into parked cars and attempting to flee. Police say he was arrested a short distance away. No one was hurt.

Police say he faces suspicion of DUI, failure to stop and render aid, and other counts. They’re all misdemeanors.

Incident for Anderson

Atlanta police said former Falcons running back Jamal Anderson is facing a charge of driving under the influence after an officer pulled him over just northeast of the city.

A DeKalb County police spokeswoman said Anderson was taken into custody around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said Anderson was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and released later Sunday after posting bond.

The full police report on the arrest had not been completed and it wasn’t known whether Anderson has an attorney representing him in the case.

RG3 is wary

At a rookie symposium in Berea, Ohio, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III said, “You’ve got to be careful who you trust. There’s vultures out there, people who are looking to climb on top of all your money.’’

On Monday, a former Baylor basketball player was arraigned in Waco, Texas, on federal extortion charges for allegedly threatening to release “derogatory information’’ about Griffin unless the Heisman Trophy winner paid him a “substantial sum’’ of money.

According to court documents, Richard Khamir Hurd, 25, contacted a representative from a St. Louis agency, threatening to publicize derogatory information about a client unless he was paid. The representative is identified in documents only by the initials B.D. Griffin’s agent is St. Louis-based Ben Dogra.

Taylor is optimistic

Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor believes he will play this season. Taylor, who underwent surgery last month to repair a torn chest muscle he injured lifting weights, said he’s optimistic about playing for the Browns in 2012. The 335-pounder doesn’t have a timeframe for his return, but after there were initial fears he would miss the entire year, he expects his return to happen . . . The Jets and Giants have filed an injunction to block a megamall in the backyard of their stadium in the Meadowlands, arguing it would create traffic problems and interfere with game days.
