Super sendoff

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff January 27, 2008 09:14 AM

For those of you who can't make (or afford) the trek to Glendale, you've got one last chance to cheer on your Patriots in person today at Gillette Stadium for a Super Bowl sendoff.

Stadium lots and gates open at 9 a.m., and the sendoff begins around 10 a.m., with live appearances by the team and Governor Deval Patrick at 11 a.m. Early word is that Tom Brady, who hasn't been spotted in Foxborough all week, may be a part of the proceedings.

Patrick will host the sendoff, where, according to a press release from the Patriots, "fans are invited to see their heroes off in style." For those of you shunning the idea of a second mortgage to buy Super Bowl tickets, you'll be pleased to know that both the event and parking is free at Gillete Stadium.

Here's the full press release:

Governor Patrick to give a Super Bowl sendoff at Gillette Stadium Sunday
Entire Patriots team to participate; Event open to the public with free admission and parking

The entire team, as well as head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft, will greet fans from the Gillette Stadium field just before boarding buses to the airport.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking at Gillette Stadium is also free. Gillette Stadium parking lots and gates will open at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. sendoff. Please note that tailgating will not be allowed in the parking lots on Sunday.

WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.

  1. Confusion? Is this even going to be held inside the stadium on the field, or is this going to be a party in the parking lot. I cant wait to go check it out, but it will be pale in comparison to the duckboat parade after the superbowl. :) :) :)

  1. so last time we went to this event it was outside in the parking lot, you got to see some guys waving or smiling as they come out but they pretty much get right on the bus, no autographs or anything and wave at everyone from the buses as they leave.

Also you will freeze up there....if you haven't been before, there's no windbreak so please parents dress kids appropriately we saw alot of blue frozen children!

  1. For anyone who has been there before, what happens? It sounds like they are letting you in the stadium to see them off from the field, is that not correct?

  1. Good luck guys and thanks for a terrific season. Those of us ordinary fans who can't even afford to attend a game at home are just as much behind you as those who can....we're proud of you whatever happens. GO PATS!

  1. I've been to this twice before, and been frozen, but it's totally worth it! The last times it was all outside the stadium, you stood in the parking lot and watched a few players, Bill, Bob Kraft and Mitt Romney (the Governor then) on stage talking, and waving to people. From what I understand this time, they're allowing fans into the stadium to sit and watch the hooplah going on on the field. Sounds great to me! I highly recommend going there when they win too, it's fantastic to see them come off the busses, complete with trophy in hand! Many of the players stopped at fans for photos and autographs. VERY cold, so bundle up!

  1. Impossible for me to make it from some 6000 miles away from Algiers (Algeria).
GO PATS my heart is with you. I still have a Pats jersey from my days at UMASS,
I'll be wearing it from now till victory which, unfortunately, i'll celebrate all by myself as there are no American football fans around here. PATS ALL THE WAY
    GOOD LUCK.

  1. Ok gee...you're the MAN! God forbid someone isn't as cool as you and hasn't been to the previous "3" sendoffs. You must have jumped on the bandwagon in 2001, where were you in '86 and '97. Nothing worse than a cocky dork who's an expert in going to parking lot sendoffs. Wave to the team from 200 yards away for me! GO PATS!!!
