The wager
As is Super Bowl tradition, the mayors from the two cities playing in the Super Bowl (or in New England's case, the biggest city in the region) made a wager today.
If the Patriots win, New York mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will send the following to Boston:
- 42 pastrami and corned beef sandwiches from Carnegie Deli
- 42 "Big Blue Cheese Eli Mann-Eater Burgers" from Gallagher's Steak House
- One case of beef cocktail patties and one case of chicken cocktail patties from Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill in the Bronx
- A selection of five pizzas from Goodfella's Pizzeria on Staten Island; 42 pounds of rugelach
- 42 pounds of assorted layer cakes and 42 black and white cookies from Junior's
- One 2.5 gallon tub of lemon ice and one 2.5 gallon tub of ice of the flavor of Boston's choice from the Lemon Ice King of Corona
- 100 servings of Manhattan clam chowder and one bushel of Blue Point Oysters from the Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant
- 20 pounds of "Super Steak" from Peter Luger Restaurant and six bottles of Peter Luger steak sauce.
- 100 cups of New England Clam Chowder from Legal Sea Foods
- 42 pounds of coffee from Dunkin' Donuts in honor of Super Bowl XLII
- 12 dozen Boston Cream Pies and 12 Dozen Parker House Rolls (in honor of Tom Brady's No. 12) from Boston's Omni Parker House Hotel
- 100 Kayem Old Tyme franks and 100 al fresco sun-dried tomato chicken sausages, the best-selling dogs in New England
- 20 Pizzas from Sal's Pizza - one pizza for each selection on the menu
- 5 Cases of Brigham's Boston You're My Home Ice Cream and 5 cases of Cherry on the Top Frozen Yogurt Bars from Elan.
- 100 servings of Stonyfield Farm Organic Yogurt

tell mumbles to enjoy the steak.
I'll settle for one Peter Luger steak and Menino can have all the rest of the junk. When it comes to food, Boston doesn't play in the same league as New York.
I'm liking the Pats giving the points as it is, now that I see whats on the menu from New York, I am LOVING the Pats winning! I'm starving, whats for dinner!!
Hey, Ari, it's Thomas Michael Menino, Mayor of the great city of Boston, show some respect or go back to NYC!
a couple things we SHOULD be sending
glazed doughnuts from Verne's donuts, donut shop of Tip O'Niel.
Cod, Schrod and Lobster
Necco Wafers
and we should get to put a lawn chair in bloomberg's parking spot.
Man, couldn't Boston have come up with anything better??? Especially seeing as it probably won't have to come up with the goods anyway? Couldn't Anthony's at least throw in some lobster or something? Clam chowder? Yogurt? Hot dogs? This is embarrassing. C'mon Boston, step up!
new england clam chowdah >>>>> manhattan clam chowder (ewwwww)
from their website:
"élan Frozen Yogurt began in 1985 by husband-and-wife team, Jim and Joanne Biltekoff of New York"
How Bostonian!
"...or in New England's case, the biggest city in the region"
also the case for the New Jersey Giants.
Funny how the mayors of Boston (who wouldn't let the Patriots build a stadium there) and New York (isn't it the New Jersey Giants) wager on teams from Foxboro and East Rutherford.
Yeah, Mumbles's offer doesn't hold a candle to the billionaire... but it really doesn't matter how crummy our wager is-- we won't actually have to pay up...
I was thinking the same thing. With all the world class restaurants we have, couldn't we have had a little more class than this? Or at least something more 'New England'.
At a minimum, some Sam Adams or Boston Beer Works specialties!
Apparently Mayor Menino didn't get the memo for the significance of the 42 either. Cheap, cheap, cheap! It is embarrassing and they're sending 8, we're only sending 7 items.
what do these guys do all day, think about what they're going to wager in the next superbowl, world series, etcera? id definitely take the new yorkers food over menino's crap
What's for dinner in East Rutherford?
