As the transition is made from "Reiss's Pieces" to "Extra Points", this is one final goodbye from me. After four-plus rewarding years at the Boston Globe and Boston.com, I'll be moving on to a new challenge on Monday.

Thank you to all the readers who made blogging here the favorite part of my job, along with the weekly mailbag.

One of the hardest parts of saying goodbye is leaving great people. There are many of them at the Globe, starting with the person I worked most closely with, Christopher Gasper. Behind the scenes, there are remarkable people on the Globe copy desk who do unsung work. The Boston.com staff is terrific and it was great working for Globe sports editor Joe Sullivan, who along with his trusty assistants has had to fight battles those before him haven't.

This will be my last post at this address, but I know there are many more updates to come here.

Thanks for sharing this great experience with me.
