One sentiment permeated the Patriots' locker room following the Jets' 16-9 triumph today at the Meadowlands: Give the Jets credit.

From coach Bill Belichick to wide receiver Randy Moss to cornerback Jonathan Wilhite, the Patriots all heaped praise on their rivals. The Jets might have run their mouths leading up to the game, but they also backed it up on the field, keeping the Patriots out of the end zone and doing enough to emerge with a crucial AFC East victory.

"Give the Jets credit... they outplayed us, outcoached us, played better than we did for 60 minutes," said Belichick. "That's the story of the game. We had our chances, but we didn't finish them."

Moss repeated it over and over again: "You gotta give credit to the Jets, there's no way to sugarcoat or feel sorry for yourselves, they won the game, they beat us and that's it."

"They did a hell of a job today... There's not beating around the bush, they beat us up."

Said Wilhite: "They outplayed us in all three facets of the game and we didn't... Give credit to those guys."

Despite the setback, particularly against his former team, tight end Chris Baker said the Patriots wouldn't dwell on the loss.

"This is Week 2," said Baker. "We're 1-1, we'll go back to the drawing board, get ready for Atlanta. There's a long way to go."

Added Kevin Faulk: "We'll come in, look at the film, make the corrections, and move on."
