FOXBOROUGH -- Wide receiver Wes Welker, who did not practice yesterday, was present for the media portion of practice today, which consisted of stretching and the start of team drills.

Welker, who missed last Sunday's game against the Jets with what is being listed as a knee injury, appeared to be jogging and running half speed without a noticeable limp.

Also, center/guard Ryan Wendell, who was released on Tuesday to make room for linebacker Prescott Burgess, was at practice. The team signed Wendell to its practice squad and released offensive lineman Patrick Brown.

The Patriots are practicing on the lower field behind Gillette Stadium. The only player not present was linebacker Jerod Mayo (sprained MCL in his right knee). For the second straight day, safety/special teams ace Matthew Slater (left elbow) was wearing a red non-contact jersey.
