Eight Patriots did not practice today, four of them the players who showed up late to a meeting this morning and one of them a player who had not previously missed a single practice this year -- quarterback Tom Brady.

On the official report, the reason for Tom Brady not practicing is listed as "right shoulder/right finger." For those who did not show up on time, the reason is listed as "not injury related." Not to look too far into those semantics, but if Brady had missed practice to attend to his newborn son, the official reason should have been "not injury related."

In his press conference today, Brady laid down the law about his teammates showing commitment to one another. Given his tone, it seems unreasonable to think he would have shown up for his press conference and then missed practice for any reason other than the coaches holding him out.

No matter his sitting out of practice, my feeling is that Brady's finger injury still isn't that serious. He was asked about his finger on the way out of his press conference today and said, "It's hanging in there." He shook a few hands in accepting congrats on the birth of his son, and he didn't seem terribly worried about his finger.

UPDATE (5:04): One point I overlooked: Tackle Sebastian Vollmer is not listed at all on the report. If he can return this week, that would be a great sign.
