OK, I just worked through some boring technical issues, and I'm back up and running on the blog. And I figured it was time to look at what will be a crucial game for the Patriots on Sunday against Buffalo.
So how about we flip the situation here? What's on the line for the Bills? Well, when Buffalo thwarted the horrific Chiefs on Sunday, the story was how Perry Fewell is fighting for the opportunity of a lifetime -- to have the interim tag removed from his coaching title.
It might matter more than you think, too. If the players really love their coach, that is. Take this example here. Last year, the 49ers finished strong even with playoff hopes dashed early, and part of it was because they were behind Mike Singletary and wanted to continue building under him.
"It's a blessing," linebacker Patrick Willis said when Singletary was given the position full time after a season-closing win. "It's not just because he was a linebacker or because he coached me. I think they've got the right man for the job. He deserved it. He earned it."
So that's one factor that quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and Co. could have going for them, outside of the strong play of the running game and pass defense of late.
(FYI: Beware of the "hometown" stories this week regarding Fitzpatrick, the former Harvard star. He's actually from here)
