HOUSTON --  Maybe Patriots quarterback won the team's Ed Block Courage Award not for coming back from his left knee injury from last season, but for overcoming the ones he's been dealing with this season.

A source close to the team confirmed a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the quarterback has been playing with a broken ring finger on his throwing (right) hand. Brady broke the finger in practice prior to the second meeting with the Dolphins Dec. 6.

The source also acknowledged No. 12 has been playing with a debilitating injury that affects three of his ribs, but was unclear as to the exact diagnosis or cause of that injury.

A CBS Sports report by former NFL general manager Charley Casserly said Brady had broken ribs. A report by Shalise Manza-Young of the Providence Journal said Brady had three cracked ribs.

Either way, Brady has been pretty banged up.
