When defensive coordinator Dean Pees packed up, the Patriots became part of a trend. Already this offseason, a full quarter of the league has, in one way or another, lost their defensive coordinator. That number could grow depending on what happens with the playoff teams and whenever the mess in Oakland is sorted out and turned into a new and different mess.

The Patriots are one of the three teams, along with the Bears and Bills, yet to fill their defensive coordinator vacancy. Here, a quick rundown of all the defensive coordinator moving and shaking:

Bears (Total Defense: 17th Points allowed: t21st)
Out: Head coach Lovie Smith will no longer call defensive plays
In: No one

Bills (Total Defense: 19th Points allowed: 16th)
Out: Perry Fewell, not retained as interim head coach
In: No one (The Bills hired Chan Gailey as head coach yesterday.)

Broncos (Total Defense: 7th Points allowed: t12th)
Out: Mike Nolan, mutual decision
In: “Likely” Dean Pees, former Patriots defensive coordinator, according to Denver Post

Chiefs (Total Defense: 30th Points allowed:29th)
Out: Clancy Pendergrast, retained and reassigned
In: Romeo Crennel, former Browns head coach

Dolphins (Total Defense: 22d Points allowed: t25th)
Out: Paul Pasqualoni, fired
In: Mike Nolan, former Broncos defensive coordinator

Giants (Total Defense: t13th Points allowed: 30th)
Out: Bill Sheridan, fired
In: Perry Fewell, former interim Bills head coach

Redskins (Total Defense: 10th  Points allowed: 18th)
Out: Greg Blatche, retired
In: Jim Haslett, former Florida Tuskers head coach

Patriots (Total Defense: 11th  Points allowed: 5th)
Out: Dean Pees, resigned
