. . . which means Pepper Johnson won't be heading back home to the Meadowlands (or New Meadowlands, as the case may be).
Fewell, of course, was the Bills' defensive coordinator, then got promoted to interim coach when Dick Jauron got the heave-ho. He's an excellent hire by the Giants. All you need to know about Fewell was apparent in how hard those guys played for him in Buffalo, even after being eliminated from the playoff race.
Could Johnson be the new DC here? Probably not. Matt Patricia is the next guy up, and if it's not him, Al Groh (a guy who can certainly give Belichick pushback and a guy who once coached here) is a name worth watching, if he's not headed for Miami.
But if Patricia is elevated, it's possible that Johnson moves over to coach the linebackers, which could at least make him a more attractive coordinator candidate elsewhere going forward.
