Get a load of what Ravens defensive lineman Trevor Pryce had to say to the Eagle-Tribune's football man Hector Longo after Sunday's game ...
"Junior Seau is their best defensive player, point blank. I watched them, he's their best player, far and away."
Wow. I mean, Wow.
Not sure if Pryce (normally a very level-headed, honest guy) was saying that for effect. But with all due respect to the all-time great Seau, if your best defensive player is a 40-year-old inside linebacker who was a healthy scratch when the team was faced with the league's best offense, and drew a DNP-CD in the three games prior to that ... Well, then there are some pretty deep-seated issues. Seau, if you recall, plans on hanging up the cleats and picking up the surfboard.
Pryce also, according to Longo's account, scoffed at the idea that Jerod Mayo deserved mention in that regard, biting his tongue before calling him "so young."
I'd argue that the Patriots actually do have an elite defensive player (Vince Wilfork). I'd also wonder how much time Pryce could possibly spend breaking down other defenses, when his job is to study offfenses. But the comments, right or wrong, are worth noting.
