With the news of defensive coordinator Dean Pees's decision to depart still fresh, we bring you this from NFL Network's Jason La Canfora:
Patriots senior football adviser Floyd Reese has emerged as the front runner for the vacant Seattle GM job.
It makes sense on a lot of levels.
Reese spent the last year getting back into football, after two years out, and would likely carry a bigger stick with the Seahawks than he does in New England, where his role is limited in many ways. He's been looking to return to "general managing" since getting the ax in Tennessee.
Plus, there's a preexisting relationship between Reese and new Seattle coach Pete Carroll. The two worked together, coaching on the defensive side of the ball, under Bud Grant in Minnesota from 1985-89.
