Tom Brady's among a nice list of celebrities descending on iconic Pebble Beach to play in this week's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. And his fellow avid golfer, and NFL quarterback, Tony Romo is also in the group.

It's an annual trip for the Patriots star, but this year, he and the other celebs might be doing more than just taking in a fun week.

They're doing golf a big favor.

It's been a pretty rough year for that sport, for obvious reasons, and an event like this should work to help heal as the game as its season ramps up.

Writes San Jose Mercury-News columnist Curtis Pashelka ...

This year, the timing couldn't be more perfect.

For a tour still reeling from Tiger Woods' off-course troubles, seeing actors like Bill Murray and George Lopez ham it up with the gallery, and quarterbacks Tom Brady and Tony Romo test their skills in another sport should provide a welcome distraction.

If there's a PGA Tour event that can be insulated from the tour's recent troubles, this is it.

... We'll keep an eye on the QBs for you. Brady's really good, and Romo is actually proficient enough to have made real, honest-to-goodness bids to qualify at majors in the past. Should be interesting.
