It's been considered a bit of a forgone conclusion that the Browns will cut ties with Donte' Stallworth -- reinstated to the NFL at the conclusion of tonight's Super Bowl -- at some point during this offseason.

Thanks to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, we've got a timeline. Stallworth is due a $1 million roster bonus on March 20, so it stands to reason that won't get paid, if he's not in the Browns' 2010 plans. And that opens up the possibility that Stallworth could return to New England.

Stallworth was part of the 16-0 regular season in 2007, catching 46 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns.

Why would it work? Glad you asked.

I think you'd have trouble finding people that don't like Stallworth as a guy, so that part of the equation is in place. He'd probably come at a discounted rate. He's got knowledge of the offense. And he's just what a team that lacked a burner outside of Randy Moss needed in 2009.

What do you guys think? Both he and Deion Branch (we've discussed him here, at length) could be low-risk gambles that could fit right back into the locker room. Worth kicking the tires, anyway, so long as Stallworth's in shape.

OK, game's about to start.
