FOXBOROUGH -- Part of Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather's routine this offseason will involve a tip he picked up from mentor Ed Reed a couple of years ago.

The Baltimore Ravens safety once told Meriweather if he wants to improve, he has to look at film from his worst games.

"I don't watch the games where we played real good and our secondary played the best game," Meriweather said. "I don't watch those games. I can pretty much see those games anytime."

So today, Meriweather said he will watch the 38-17 loss against the Saints from November. Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 18 of 23 passes for 371 yards and five touchdowns in the win and exposed the Patriots secondary.

"... I'm going to see what the Saints did so good and what we did so bad that made Drew Brees throw for 400 yards. I'm going to see the things that we did and hopefully what I find on that, I can go back and tell Jonathan and go tell Darius and Leigh and all them what I saw on the tape that we need to improve on."

Meriweather is among the players taking part in offseason workouts that began this week. While Meriweather is in Foxborough, he said he spends a lot of time in Miami working out with players like Reed.

...

Meriweather added that he has had the chance to speak with new Patriots defensive coach Corwin Brown, who was the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and a former Patriots safety. Brown's experience in the NFL and overall knowledge should be helpful, Meriweather said.

"I think it'll be extremely important," he said. "It's the first safety coach I've had he actually...I sat down and talked to him about five times and every time I talk to him I'm intrigued by how much he knows and how much he says he could help.

"I'm not one who believes talk but he can have his chance to show it and I'll have my chance to show I'm a good student. It's gonna be good to have someone I can actually communicate with who actually has played the position and knows what I'm looking at."
