Free agent tight end J.P. Foschi visited the Patriots this week, veteran agent Ralph Cindrich confirmed in an email.

The Patriots remain thin at the position with 32-year-old Alge Crumpler, primarily a blocker at this stage of his career, the only one there with any NFL playing experience. Rob Myers and Robbie Agnone are also on the roster, but neither managed to make it off the practice squad and on to New England's 53-man roster last year.

Foschi spent time with the Raiders and Chiefs, before breaking through with 27 catches for 260 yards and two touchdown for the Bengals last year, his fourth in the NFL. Cindrich described the tight end as "a guy who fits a strong team well with team play and blue collar work ethic", and recalled a couple instances last fall when Foschi hung on to the ball while absorbing big hits, to give the Cincinnati offense a jolt.

Word of this visit first surfaced during an exchange on Cindrich's Twitter account, with WEEI.com asking about it.
