Just landed for a layover here, and as I open the laptop, the internet is buzzing with reports that Jason Taylor is visiting the Jets today.

Our pal Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald has been all over the news on his Twitter page all day. John Clayton of ESPN.com paints the situation as an AFC East battle royale for the 36-year-old three-time All-Pro selection.

What I was told about this situation a few days ago is that both the Patriots and Taylor remain open to joining up after nearly doing so last year, and that the lines of communication were alive between the sides. I'll follow up on that later, but the fact remains that if Taylor's in Florham Park, N.J. today, there's a good shot he's not leaving.

As we had it in January, after staying home in 2009, Taylor's more open to playing somewhere outside of Florida in 2010 than he was last year, when family considerations were a factor in his re-joining the Dolphins.

This whole situation is an interesting one, particularly because there's such a side benefit to signing Taylor for the Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins -- Keeping him away from the other two. And another peripheral aspect of this one is the status of out-of-favor Patriot Adalius Thomas, who seemed destined to join the Jets in 2010, but may not have that option if Taylor joins Gang Green.

All right, about to board here. We'll have more for you as it comes ...
