To no one's surprise, the Patriots have this morning released LB Adalius Thomas, ending a tumultuous three-year tenure with the team.

The prize of the free agent market in 2007, when he signed a five-year deal with New England, Thomas' time with the Patriots declined steadily over the last year-plus. He was benched for the Pats' game with Tennessee last year, a healthy scratch for the first time in his career, and also was benched later in the season against Carolina, the only one of the four "Late Gate" players to be punished.

Thomas played 39 regular-season games for the Pats, with 146 tackles and 14.5 sacks. He missed the final seven games of the 2008 season due to a broken arm. He was the Pats' best player in Super Bowl XLII, with five tackles and two sacks.
