Report: New England brings back Burgess

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Patriots have come to a one-year agreement with Derrick Burgess.

Burgess came to New England last year via a training-camp trade with Oakland -- the former Pro Bowler had made it clear he didn't want to be with the Raiders any longer, and the Pats sent third- and fifth-round draft picks out west to acquire the player who had 27 sacks in the 2005-06 seasons.

The linebacker/defensive end, who will turn 32 during training camp, was credited with 32 tackles (27 solo) and five sacks last season; he had a sack in each of New England's final three games.

Burgess' return is not a surprise, as there was a report during the NFL spring meeting in March that he would be re-signed by the team within a week.

Burgess should help shore up the area many consider to be the Pats' biggest need: pass rush.
