Wes Welker came out and talked again last night at his Cleats & Cocktails Event, and this time -- rather than just the normal "Everything's coming along fine" -- he dropped a bit of a bombshell.

A reporter asked Welker about his recovery from a torn ACL and MCL, and the Patriots receiver responded that it was "just the ACL."

My report back in January
was among numerous that had Welker injuring both the ACL and MCL. When we reported on the surgery about a month later, the fact that Welker had to wait for the MCL to heal was in the story.

Welker also told the "The Sports Animal" (courtesy of sportsradiointerviews.com) in Oklahoma City nine days after the injury that "We’ve gotta let the MCL heal first and then we can go in and work on the ACL."

So could a semantics game be played here? Sure it could. Technically, the surgery is to repair the ACL, and not the MCL, and that's why Welker had to wait for the latter to heal before having the former repaired. When he says, "just the ACL" ... He could mean he just had the ACL surgically repaired. And that wouldn't account for the fact that the MCL was also injured.

We'll try and figure all that out for you. Anyway, one thing I do believe is that if the MCL wasn't injured (And I'm still having a hard time believing that), that would be significant.
