Sam "Bam" Cunningham just wrapped up a conference call from his California home to share his thoughts on being selected as this year's entrant into the Patriots' Hall of Fame. As you can imagine, he's pretty excited.
"It is really, really special," he said. "The two others that were on the nominating list - Jon Morris and Houston (Antwine), both of them deserve this as much as I do, maybe more. They were before me; they set the foundation...I'm just ecstatic about being part of the Patriots Hall of Fame."
Cunningham said it means a great deal that his selection was determined by the team's fans, and admitted that he did vote for himself (though he also voted for Morris and Antwine). New England's faithful, he noted, will sit in games in high temperatures and low, and have supported the team through good times and bad.
"To be remembered by them is wonderful. At the end of the day, all you have is how you were remembered," he said.
It's been a good month or so for Cunningham: in late May he was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
