guyton250.jpgInside linebacker Gary Guyton, one of a long line of undrafted free agents who have claimed a spot on the Patriots' roster, has received a two-year contract extension from the club that includes a $650,000 signing bonus.

"We're absolutely thrilled, Gary and I both," Georgia-based agent Richard Kopelman said. "We're very, very happy with the organization. They've treated him well since Day One. This was a fantastic gesture by the Patriots, they stepped up."

Guyton was an exclusive-rights free agent, which means all New England had to do was offer him a one-year tender which would have paid him $470,000 for the coming season. But while the Pats sent the tender, they never sent the ERFA contract, Kopelman said. The pair didn't worry, however.

Kopelman and Guyton approached the organization shortly after the end of last season to discuss the former Georgia Tech 'backer's contract.

"We thought the way Gary had performed, stepping in to call the signals when Jerod Mayo was out and playing 84.5 percent of the defensive snaps, he (had earned) something more than the minimum, and they agreed," Kopelman said, adding that at the time New England told them they had other things to take care of first. "They've always been true to their word with us, which is great."

While it seemed clear that it was him, Kopelman confirmed that @GaryGuyton59 on Twitter is indeed his client - so you can follow the fun-loving linebacker (who has wrapped a couple of his dreadlocks in red and blue yarn in homage to his pro club).
