Patten36.jpgBill Belichick is announcing the retirement of David Patten as we blog this.

"We have a lot of guys that work hard," Belichick said. "David sets the pace as far as work ethic."

Patten was signed this offseason by the Patriots, returning after spending 2009 out of football. He won three Super Bowl rings with New England earlier this decade.

Patten caught 165 passes and 2,513 yards and 16 touchdowns in his four years, and is of course best known for his leaping touchdown catch in Super Bowl XXXVI. That's in the picture to the left.

More in a little bit.
