As reporters took attendance for this afternoon's practice, we noticed two players missing and two players not on the roster.

Midway through the 90-minute session, we had clarification:

The Patriots signed G Darnell Stapleton and defensive back DeAngelo Willingham.

To make room for them, WR Buddy Farnham and DL Adrian Grady were released.

Stapleton, listed at 6 feet 3 inches, 285 pounds, was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie in 2007 after playing at Rutgers. He played in 14 games (12 starts) in 2008 befre spending last season on injured reserve.

Willingham has bounced around the league, and this is his second stop in New England: he spent a couple of weeks on the Patriots' practice squad last season.
